I originally wrote the singles list in December 2000, but I didn’t list the albums so I did this in December 2009.
Out of the singles, I would probably still go for Shiver being near the top as it’s Coldplay’s finest hour – they’ve had lots of crappy hours since then. There’s very little to choose between the top four. I would stick with the Offspring one for sentimental values – it’s the first song my son (then three years old) learned the words to!
If I was doing the chart today these would certainly end up in the top 10:

This is probably my new no 1 if I revised the original list. Bellatrix were known in Iceland as Kolkrassi Krokarandi (that’s from memory so it’s probably wrong!) which translates as Black-arsed Motherfuckers. The band are no more but lead singer Eliza Newman had a number 1 in Iceland this year and is still churning out some great solo stuff.
And finally 34. Super Furry Animals – Ysbeidiau Heulog.
Of the albums, I really do miss the Younger Younger 28s. I saw them live once supporting My Life Story at the Colchester Arts Centre (a deconsecrated church, if you’re not familiar with it) and their set was nothing short of captivating.
